DIVESTMENT OF
MONEY-SINKS:
Home Services -
landscaping, groundskeeping, cleaning, decorating, house sitting, home
protection services, dry cleaning:
I’m frugal by nature, so I don’t easily pay for home management services like these…
but I admit to having longed for a house cleaner at different times!; and my
husband gets balkier about lawn care as time goes on. These, plus some of the
others in the list, are very "everyday" services, and plenty of people
pay for them all… and they’re quite a sizable regular drain on their bank
accounts.
It all depends on what you want… But you can certainly take these things
related to home management services into consideration in a downsizing decision:
- less ground to be tempted to (re)landscape
and keep up
- or at least, space that's easy to relandscape to make it
maintenance-free
- less area to keep clean, inside and out
- trade a skill you have for someone cleaning your house?
- bite the bullet and decorate it on your
own, with what you’ve got
- look for neighbors, and automatic lights, to help
keep the place look lived in while you’re away.
And wherever you are… get a
new, wash-and-wear, wardrobe? (dry cleaning bills are a choice, not a
necessity).
